What Tieout is, what it isn't, how billing and cancellation work, and the honest limits of an advisory reconciliation tool.

v1 draft — have counsel review before public launch

This is a complete, good-faith draft written to govern Tieout's v1 product honestly. It has not been reviewed by an attorney. That review happens before Tieout accepts its first paying customer — this label is here so nobody mistakes a draft for a finished legal document. Last updated July 18, 2026.

1. Acceptance

By using the Tieout website, the free Tie-Out Check, or a paid Tieout subscription, you agree to these terms. If you're using Tieout on behalf of a company, you're confirming you have the authority to bind that company to these terms.

2. What Tieout is — and isn't

Tieout is an advisory reconciliation copilot. It reads the files you export from your bank and your property management software, runs a three-way trust tie-out and a per-property trust-liability coverage check, and surfaces discrepancies for your review.

Tieout is not:

  • A system of record. AppFolio, Buildium, or your own books remain the system of record; Tieout never auto-posts a correction to them.
  • A custodian of funds. Tieout never holds, moves, or has access to move your trust money.
  • A compliance certification or a guarantee. A clean tie-out means the numbers you gave us balance — it is not proof there is no error anywhere in the underlying books. Two mistakes that happen to cancel out can still produce a "Balanced" result. Tieout reduces the risk of an undiscovered error; it does not certify accuracy, and it does not replace your own fiduciary reconciliation duty or your CPA's review.
  • A substitute for your professional judgment. When the data is sufficient, Tieout names the likely culprit transaction; when it isn't, it narrows the gap to a property, date range, and amount. Either way, you decide what to do about it.

3. No PMS or bank connection in v1

Tieout v1 works entirely from files you export yourself and upload. It does not connect to AppFolio, Buildium, or your bank via API, OAuth, or any credential-based login, and it never asks you for one. Because there is no connection, there is nothing to authorize and nothing to revoke.

4. Accounts, billing & the free Tie-Out Check

The free Tie-Out Check requires no signup, no account, and no payment method. Paid plans (Starter, Growth, Scale — see our Pricing page for current rates) include a 14-day free trial; a card is required to start a trial but is not charged until day 15, and you can cancel during the trial without being billed.

Billing is month-to-month by default — no annual contract required. An optional annual plan is available at a discount (2 months free, roughly 17% off) for customers who'd rather pay yearly; it is never required, and you can switch between billing modes.

You can cancel any time from your account settings — no phone call, no email chain. Your plan tier is based on total unit count across everything you upload, checked monthly; if you cross a tier threshold we'll tell you before billing you differently.

5. Acceptable use

Use Tieout only for legitimate trust-accounting reconciliation for property or portfolios you're authorized to manage. Don't upload data you don't have the right to upload, attempt to reverse-engineer or abuse the service, or use it to attempt fraud or misrepresentation of any account's true balance.

6. Your data

You own the files you upload and the reports Tieout generates from them. We process that data only as described in our Privacy Policy — to generate your tie-out and, on paid plans, your reconciliation history. We don't claim ownership of your financial data, and we don't sell it.

7. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

Tieout is provided "as is," as an advisory tool. To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Tieout does not guarantee that its output is free of errors, or that a "Balanced" result means your books contain no mistakes. See Section 2.
  • You remain responsible for your own trust-account reconciliation duty and for any regulatory or fiduciary requirement that applies to you, regardless of what Tieout reports.
  • Tieout's aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid Tieout in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

(Operator note, logged honestly rather than hidden: Tieout intends to carry technology errors-and-omissions insurance before accepting its first paying customer. That binding is a pre-launch checklist item; this section will be updated to reflect it once bound.)

8. Termination & cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time, in-app. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of Section 5 (acceptable use) or for non-payment, with notice where practical. On cancellation, your data is handled per the retention policy in our Privacy Policy — an export offered first, then deletion within 30 days.

9. Changes to these terms

If we make a material change, we'll update this page and, for paid customers, email you directly before the change takes effect. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.

10. Governing law

The governing-law jurisdiction and Tieout's registered operating entity will be finalized and stated here at incorporation, ahead of public launch. Tieout is currently operated by an independent founder; see About Tieout.
