Questions

Honest FAQ

How does the 14-day free trial work?

Add a card when you sign up for a plan. You're not charged until day 15. Cancel anytime during the trial from your account settings and you won't be billed at all.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Month-to-month is the default — no annual contract required, no cancellation fee. Cancel in-app from account settings; no email chain or phone call required.

Is there an annual option?

Yes — pay yearly and get 2 months free (roughly 17% off the monthly rate). It's entirely optional; month-to-month stays the default, and you can switch between billing modes anytime. No lock-in either way.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Export everything before you go — we'll prompt you to. While you're subscribed, paid-plan source files and reports are retained for 13 months (so you have history when an auditor asks) and are deletable in-app anytime. If you cancel, everything is deleted within 30 days.

Do you need my bank login or an AppFolio/Buildium API connection?

No. Tieout v1 works entirely from files you export yourself — a bank statement, a trust ledger export, and a tenant/property balance export. No bank credentials, no OAuth, no API keys, nothing to revoke.

Is my data secure?

Files are encrypted in transit and at rest. AI parsing runs on an enterprise API that does not train on your data — full stop, no exception for "inside your account." Files are used only to generate your tie-out, never sold, and retained per our data policy: 13 months on paid plans (deletable in-app anytime), deleted within 30 days of cancellation, deleted immediately after your result for the free check. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy. We're a small team and we're not yet SOC 2 certified; if that's a requirement for your firm, tell us and we'll let you know when it changes.

What if Tieout flags something wrong — or misses something?

Two directions to that question. If Tieout flags something that isn't actually a problem (a false positive), you review every flagged item before anything happens — mark it corrected, dismiss it as a false positive, or leave a note; Tieout never posts a correction on its own, and a dismissed item won't come back next month unless the underlying numbers change. If Tieout misses something, or shows "Balanced" when it shouldn't (a false negative), that's a real limit worth naming plainly: a clean tie-out means the numbers you gave us balance, not that there's no error anywhere — two mistakes that happen to cancel out can still net to zero. Tieout reduces risk; it doesn't certify accuracy, and it isn't a substitute for your own review. See the full list of what we can't catch.

Which unit count determines my plan?

The total number of units across every property you upload, checked each month. If you cross a tier's limit we'll tell you before we bill you differently — you can upgrade or downgrade anytime.

Does Tieout replace my CPA or my state's required trust reconciliation?

No. Tieout is an advisory tool — a second set of eyes, not a compliance guarantee. Your own reconciliation duty (or your CPA's) is still the final word, and in most states you're still required to keep your own signed reconciliation on file.
